Initial Assessment
In the initial assessment session, Jody and the client get to know each other and establish a supportive therapeutic connection. Jody asks questions to understand the client’s experiences of grief and loss, personal history, current life circumstances, and goals for counselling. This process helps build a trusting therapeutic alliance and informs a treatment plan tailored to the client’s unique needs, supporting them through their grieving process with compassion and understanding
Establishing Goals
Based on the assessment, Jody and the client collaboratively set goals that focus on processing grief, navigating loss, and fostering emotional healing. These goals provide a guiding framework for the counselling process, helping the client work through their experiences at a pace that feels safe and supportive while promoting resilience, understanding, and personal growth.
Exploration and Insight
In subsequent sessions, Jody creates a safe and supportive space for the client to explore their thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and behaviours related to grief and loss. Through reflective listening, empathy, and gentle inquiry, Jody helps the client gain a deeper understanding of their emotional responses, their relationships, and the ways past and present experiences of loss shape their life. This process fosters insight, acceptance, and emotional processing
Embodiment & Integration
Jody supports clients in developing practical tools and strategies to navigate the complex emotions and challenges that arise from loss. Techniques may include mindfulness practices, relaxation exercises, emotional regulation strategies, and healthy boundary-setting. These approaches help clients manage stress, process grief, and build resilience while supporting their emotional well-being and personal healing journey.
Cultivating Self Compassion
Jody supports clients in cultivating self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance as they navigate the grieving process. Through validation, encouragement, and reflective dialogue, clients learn to gently challenge negative self-perceptions, nurture their self-esteem, and develop a greater sense of confidence, self-worth, and emotional resilience, fostering healing and a compassionate connection with themselves.
